From 10 December 2019 Osaka Metro Co Ltd kicked off an experimental demonstration of a ‘ticketless ticket barrier’ . A camera attached to the ticket barrier takes a facial photo of a passenger and checks this against the pre-registered data. If verified, the ticket barrier automatically opens. Another method of using a QR code reader is also being tested.<\/p>\n

Osaka Metro and its subsidiary, Osaka City Bus, also demonstrated to the news media how their ‘self-driving bus’ ran on the road west of the Grand Front Osaka complex in Kita Ward, Osaka City. Additionally, a test drive opportunity for 250 pre-registered passengers was held. This was the first time for a ‘self-driving bus’ to run on a public road in Osaka.<\/p>\n

In this way, experimental demonstrations have been conducted one after another, mainly in the field of mobility, aiming at the realisation of \u201cSmart City Osaka\u201d.<\/p>\n
