[Recruiting challengers] The pitch battle in a ring that is drawing global attention. The JAPAN FINAL will be held at OIH!

“Get in the Ring” is a startup support event started from 2012 in the Netherlands. In the unconventional, exciting pitch battle, contestants compete against each other over their projects in a ring.

Now, it is held in 100 countries around the world, providing the best opportunities for participants to broaden their relationship with entrepreneurs and investors in order to expand their businesses. This time, the JAPAN FINAL will be held at OIH. The winner will be invited to the World Final held in New York and compete against winners from various countries or regions. We are now recruiting venture companies or teams who wish to go on to such an exciting stage.

Once you make an entry in Get in The Ring, your information will be registered in the database of the Dutch office, enabling you to broaden your business matching range to include potential partner companies. Moreover, winning at the district final and the global final will bring you valuable opportunities to deliver your projects as a worldwide promotion strategy, which gives you a big advantage.

This is a big chance for you to tap into the world. We are looking forward to your taking the challenge!

*We are separately recruiting audience members. Please refer to the bottom part for details.

  • 19:00-20:00 Semi-Final

  • 20:20-21:30 Networking meeting
  • We will hold pitch training and the elimination round for entries from 10:00 on the day. Six shortlisted entries can proceed to the main battle from 18:30.
Six companies show up in the semi-final. One-on-one battle between two companies are held. First, there is a self-introduction for a minute, following five rounds (30 sec. each), in which each contestant pitches under the following themes for 30 sec. in each round. At the end of each round, there is Q&A and winners are decided through a vote by judges and audience. Three winners of the semi-final proceed to the final where they pitch against each other. *No slides such as PowerPoint and be used in pitch.
  • It's a 1- on-1 pitch battle between two startups. There are 5 rounds, ending in a Q&A and a vote for the winner by our Champion Judges and the audience. First you get a quick intro, and the 30 sec. rounds are: Team, Achievements, Business Model & Market, Financials & Proposition, and Freestyle. Get in the Ring pitching follows 5 different 30 second rounds : Team (30 seconds), Achievements (30 seconds), Business Model & Market (30 seconds), Financials & Investment Proposition (30 seconds), Freestyle (30 seconds). In addition to this, each startup is given 1 minute to introduce themselves and their business. A battle therefore takes on the following format:
  • Round 1 – Team
This round covers the compilation of the startups (management) team, and highlights their various skills and experience. Think of including why this team is unique and will be successful, and what the team may lack.
  • Round 2 – Achievements
In this round startups will outline what they have achieved to date (not what they will achieve!). This can include sales and/ or revenue, number of customers, and any partnerships or investments they have. Startups can also think of mentioning any awards that they have won.
  • Round 3 – Business model & market
Startups can use this round to explain their businesses, the markets in which they find themselves, and their market strategy. In addition, noting competition, and how they are different including USP’s (Unique Selling Point) can help this.
  • Round 4 – Financials & Investment Proposition
The fourth round covers the financial situation and the investment sought. What is the total investment sought and what does the startup needs beside money? What is the share amount offered/ sold to investors? How will the money be spent? Think also of including where the startup will be in three to five years.
  • Round 5 – Freestyle
This is the last round of the battle. Here startups are free to do what they want in a last effort to convince the champions (investors) why they should invest in them and their company. The startup needs to try to even convince it’s competitor why he or she should win! The startup needs to try to get to the core of its existence, why do they exist and what is their passion. A short product demonstration could be included here
