Hankyu Corp. (Hankyu) and Hanshin Electric Railway Co. (Hanshin) renamed their hub and terminal stations to “Osaka Umeda”

Hankyu Hanshin Holdings. Inc. has announced that Umeda Station will be renamed “Osaka Umeda” station as of October 2019. Japan Railway (JR) Osaka station is close to Umeda stations of Hankyu and Hanshin, and another Umeda station, Higashi (means East) Umeda Station and Nishi (West) Umeda station of Osaka Metro Co. (Osaka Metro). JR Osaka station serves as a transportation hub to Kyoto and Kobe and in and around Osaka City. In Osaka, due to a rapid increase of foreign tourists since 2013, it is required to clearly introduce that Umeda stations and Osaka station are all terminal stations (of different railway operators) in the same area. Grand Front Osaka building, where Osaka Innovation Hub is located, is adjacent to the north side of JR Osaka station and is easily accessible from “Osaka Umeda” with only about five minutes’ walk from each terminal station of Hankyu, Hanshin and Osaka Metro.
