――What does your startup do?
Sakura Internet Inc. has provided data center business from the early days of the Japanese Internet. Currently, we have 5 data centers in Japan. We provide cost-efficient internet infrastructure services for individuals, corporations, or other enterprises depending on customers’ needs.
――What problem are you trying to solve?
Our philosophy “what you want to do, to what you CAN do” is the drive behind our business which helps our clients realize their vision by providing the Internet infrastructure.
――Why did you choose Osaka?
Because I was born in Osaka, and I was familiar with this city.
――What do you think about Osaka’s startup community?
I would like to continue to proactively interact and network with various communities, small or large, to share growth together.
――How has Osaka’s Governments (City & Prefecture) helped your startup?
When we incorporated our business in Osaka way back in 1998, there was no support available from Osaka City or Prefecture Governments. Today, through opportunities such as the “Startupbootcamp Scale Osaka” program which the Governments of Osaka are supportive of, we are able to partner and interact with startups.
――Where is your favorite place in Osaka and why?
I have always been fond of robots, so I often went to purchase parts in appliances district of Nipponbashi. It is still a place that brings back good memories.
――Do you have advice for people considering doing a startup in Osaka?
There is no reason that a startup would have to be in Tokyo. Companies that are stuck in their business tend to move to Tokyo, and it’s a paradox that proves that moving to Tokyo is the “only option” or last resort. I believe that there are a lot that can be improved before making that move to the capital.
